Get Your Band Featured on Blues Power!
May 26, 2011 11:26 PM PDT

I know many of you Blues Power fans have blues bands of your own. Here is your opportunity to submit your music and get your band featured on the show! I will review your submissions and select the top bands to feature on a special June 30 show. And if you grant permission, I will also post your music on a podcast so you and all your friends can hear!

Eligibility:

At least one member of the band must be a fan on my Facebook fan page. As simple as that. Bands can be any size and play any style of blues or blues-influenced music.

Submission:

Send an email to bluesdjben@gmail.com. Include your name, the name of your band, and either a.) a link to a place where I can listen to and download songs by your band or b.) one or more MP3 files of your band's music. Optional: if you would like me to also feature your band's song on my podcast if it is selected, please express your permission for me to do so (For me to podcast it, it must be your band's original song, but I will still be happy to play covers on the radio).

Deadline:

No later than Tuesday, June 28, two days before the show.

I will review all submissions and select the top bands to feature on Blues Power. I will also mention the top bands on this blog and on my Facebook page. I hope to hear from you and your band. Good luck, and have fun playing the blues!

Special Interview with Adam Gussow!
September 29, 2010 01:34 PM PDT

Last week I had the chance to interview Adam Gussow, one of the foremost harmonica players in the blues and a professor at the University of Mississippi, who gave a lecture and a concert here in Manhattan on September 24th. In his first radio interview since the release of his new album Kick and Stomp, we discussed his lecture, how he began playing as a one-man-band, his website, and the blues harp community. But the best part was that he brought his instruments and played several songs from his new album live in the studio!

1. Crossroads Blues--5:46
2. Buford Chapel Breakdown*
3. Goin' Down South*
4. Good Morning Little Schoolgirl*
*Live in the studio

Thanks to Adam for coming in for the interview and for letting me podcast it; thanks to Walter Dodds of the Red State Blues Band for bringing Adam to Manhattan and helping set up this interview; thanks to Chris Maxwell of the Wildcat 91.9 for helping set things up and making sure we sounded good on air; and thanks to DJ E of the EnJ show for allowing us to use part of his show time.
